# Building an audience

Define an audience with filters, estimate its size, then build and match it to a destination.

An audience is a set of people or companies you want to target, defined by filters. Primer estimates how many records match as you build, then matches that audience to an ad destination when you sync it.

## Estimating size as you build

As you add filters, Primer shows an estimated audience size. For **Meta, Google and LinkedIn**, Primer also shows a predicted **match rate** — the share of the audience that destination is expected to identify. See [Match rates](/primer/primer-support-review/audiences/match-rates.md) for what those numbers mean.

The estimate is a prediction of how many records match your filters, not the final matched count. Matching against a destination drops records the platform can't identify, so the delivered audience is smaller than the estimate. See [Audience size limits](/primer/primer-support-review/audiences/audience-size-limits.md) for the minimums and maximums that apply.

## Previewing your audience

Before you build, you can preview who matches your current filters. The preview shows up to the **first 250 records**, **25 at a time** across pages. It's a sample for sanity-checking your filters — not the full audience, and there's no export from the preview. To get the full matched set into an ad platform, build and sync the audience.

## From draft to live

A new audience starts as a **Draft**. Building and matching move it through **Running** and **Matching** to **Ready**, and syncing it to a destination makes it **Live**. See [Audience statuses](/primer/primer-support-review/audiences/audience-statuses.md) for what each status means and what to do at each one.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://support.sayprimer.com/primer/primer-support-review/audiences/building-an-audience.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
